Abloc - Småland Gravel

As cycling season kicks off in Scandinavia I joined Eric from Abloc recon some of the upcoming Gränna Gravel route, we shot some promo imagery ahead of the event which takes place in May this year. I often talk about the magic that surrounds gravel cycling in Småland, every time I venture out into the depths of the highlands I’m left feeling inspired by the landscape that was heavily influential to highly acclaimed artist John Bauer. It draws you in enticing you to push further and harder, a cyclists dream!

Its always a pleasure to work with Abloc here in Sweden!

Norse Projects - Lake Vättern with Duncan Philpott

New work for Norse Projects was recently released to showcase their Herluf Windbreaker jacket as part of the Wave Dye Nylon campaign for 2024. Shot on a cold day along the eastern shores of Lake Vättern, I followed passionate fly angler Duncan Philpott as he targets landlocked salmon that reside in Vättern deep waters.

For the campaign I produced both still and moving imagery, to see the campaign you can head to Norse Projects following the link below and you can also watch the film in full at the bottom of this page.

Dusseldorf with Shimano

In October I headed south to Düsseldorf to meet up with Adrian and continue with Shimano’s “Cycling in the City” series that I have been working on with Fusion Media Services.

It was a first for me to visit Düsseldorf and made even better by having local Adrian show myself and Chris from Fusion around. Despite the reputation of Germany being very car centric, it was really refreshing to explore Düsseldorf by bike allowing us to avoid the traffic thanks to the abundance of quality cycling infrastructure.

You can view the full piece on Shimano’s Lifestyle website or by following links on their social media.

Nissån, Småland - December 2023

Intrepid Camera recently approached me looking to test their newly developed 4x5 film holders, living in a cold climate they were looking to test durability when the mercury hit the extreme negative numbers. Winter came early to Southern Sweden which meant by December, many of the small rivers and streams had begun to freeze over. This creates a unique phenomena were by the power of the water is suppressed due to extreme cold yet remains a powerful force that despite dense ice sheets, continues to flow. While walking along the upper reaches of Nissån, I discovered a pressure point where the water had thinned the ice enough that the trapped air had burst through.

This initial image has formed the foundation for a new personal project which I will share more from in the near future.

During 2024 I will be sharing more BTS and general happenings on social media, if you have instagram feel free to give me a follow @chrisLanaway / https://www.instagram.com/chrislanaway/?hl=en

Ellös, Swedens West Coast - October 2023

Sunrise on the Berget in Ellös, Sweden.

I recently visited Ellös on Swedens West Coast for a family holiday, a week where the weather was largely dominated by rain. We were graced with one break in the weather allowing the west coast to really showcase it’s unique light during late autumn. I begun thinking about the vast amount of work I produce outside of commercial projects, as such I am re-igniting my blog as a platform to share updates, unseen work and some behind the scenes. Stay tuned for more to come!
